SUMMARY:
Perform a variety of duties to deliver baked goods to customers on assigned routes, usually within a radius of four states. Drive a large goods truck with a haul capacity of less than 2 tons and usually six wheels to transport goods.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Drive a commercial vehicle, such as a truck with a haul capacity of less than 2 tons and a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), not more than 17.500 currently of primarily to deliver baked bread to approximately 15-20 locations.
Verify load against shipping papers. May be required to verify/count products against shipping docs for the receiver at some destinations.
Apply knowledge of DOT commercial driving regulations and roads in area to drive truck to destination.
Obey traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures.
At destination, maneuver truck into unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and equipment are properly positioned. Unload vehicle using lifts and ramps.
Ensure vehicle is in proper working condition and report any mechanical problems immediately. Maintain records, such as vehicle logs, records of cargo, etc., in accordance with regulations.
Read maps and follow written or verbal geographic directions. Follow safety rules and regulations at all times.
Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to dispatcher, using cell phone or mobile two-way radios. Maintain clear communications with supervisors/dispatchers on any unusual circumstances as required.
The schedule is four days a week, flexible end time based on road conditions and alternating weekends and holidays, excluding Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Schedule may be subject to changes accordingly to business needs.
BACKGROUND/SKILLS REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Knowledge of commercial driving and related regulations. Basic math skills. Over one year and up to three years of experience in commercial driving including night & overnight driving. Demonstrated use of material handling equipment. CDL and/or HAZMAT Certificate are NOT required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Significant time operating material handling equipment and moving about shipping areas unloading product.
· Considerable use of arms and legs and moving whole body, reaching and stooping, continuously moving average weight material (25 to 60 lbs.) and frequently moving heavy weight (over 60lbs.). Manual dexterity and fingering are required.
· Near and far vision—see objects at close range as well as in the distance.
· Spatial Orientation—requiring the ability to know own location in relation to other objects/vehicles.
· Static Strength—exerting muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry objects with or without assistance.
· Reaction time—able to quickly respond to a signal or change in traffic when it occurs
WORK ENVIRONMENT/TRAVEL:
The incumbent regularly performs work in and out of a vehicle, continually exposed to the environment and varied weather conditions and road hazards.
